Site Transfered! - 01/22/2012

Blackmodule Studio's prior domain has been changed for a more professional feel. As of now we have transferred the old site to the new domain other than a few minor links we are in the process of changing over. If you run into a broken link, we appologize. The site is still under construction, and will be in proper working order shortly.

New Site! - 01/18/2012

Blackmodule Studio is in the process of getting a new site! We will be migrating this site over to it soon, and hope to have all kinds of new stuff heading your way. Head on over to the forums if you'd like to leave some feedback! Or you can check us out at the new site.

Site Updated - 01/16/2012

Justin here - After speaking with Shawn I will be helping with the site, as we both have periods of being very busy, and site maintenance will be much easier with two of us, rather than one. We are currently restructuring the site to help to showcase other projects Shawn and I have been working on, and make it more of a Blackmodule Studio site, rather than a BMS site. All BMS content will remain, as that is still a big part of this studio's history. Check out the sidebar to see some info on projects that Shawn and I have been working on. Soon we will have sections set up for each project. We will also try to clean up the forums a bit so you can easily navigate to project specific sections of the forums. In the meantime, mind the dust and enjoy the new content as it comes in.

Bug Fix Update - 9/9/2011

Quite literally right after I updated BMS to 0.5.6 and released last night, I found a small bug which needed to be fixed a.s.a.p. There was a bug which produced infinite vials when I potion was drank. I fixed the bug today and am releasing the bugfix update. Unfortunately this means that all servers and clients which downloaded the mod with the bug in it will have to re-download and install, including servers. You don't have to change your maps or anything like that, just re-install with the new update and keep your same map. Thanks again to all of our supporters; this mod was for you guys/gals!

A Mod For Our Supporters - 9/9/2011

We have been getting a lot of support lately for our Minecraft mod Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite; as of right now donators have donated $350 to us in support of the mod. To should our appreciation of our communities generocity, we are adding some much needed content to our mod. The content includes some of the most asked for or asked about things in our mod. The biggest question we have gotten is, "What are you doing with flax?" Well, how about a long bow mod? The next biggest question we get is, "Are you making potions with that vial!?!?" The answer is yet, of course, but, we are doing much more than that. We are creating an entire alchemy mod. Just as a taste for our community and those who follow us, we are adding three of the herbs and three of the potions we planned to add. The effects are simple, yet fantastic. We hope everybody enjoys the mod for our donators as much as we have enjoyed the greatness of the BMS community. You guys rock!

BMS v0.5.6

Notification of Donation Received - 8/29/2011

Ah, I love getting these emails. They mean we are one step closer to getting our own server. While we don't always make public thank yous for every donation, we definitely do appreciate them. The latest donation, made by a certain Noah King, was this months largest donation, since the donation competition started anyway. In this competition, the largest donator gets to choose r3ddawn's title...no matter what that person chooses, and unless somebody donated $40 or more then it looks like Mr. King will be choosing r3ddawn's fate this month. Thank you Mr. King; Blackmodule Studio appreciates it. Whether or not r3ddawn does, however, is entirely up to what you set his title to ;).

2 Servers Removed from BMS Server List - 8/25/2011

Unfortunately I had to remove two servers from the public Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite Server Listings today. The reason being the servers have been down for over a week, and, I can't have downed servers on the server list. If you know that your server will be down for an extended period of time, let me know so I don't remove it. Thanks all, Blackmodule Studio... Public BMS Server List -->

BMS v0.5.5 Stage 5 Released - 8/20/2011

It may seem like I have fallen off the face of the earth, but, those who follow BMS on the Minecraft forums would know that BMS v0.5.5 has been in the works. Today development on the next version of Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite has finally drawn to a close, and just in time to be released before Minecraft v1.8. I know I keep saying this, but, I really do think that this is the last update to the BMS server administration mod which will be added. I have added commands to control the weather, create custom sets, along with a great variety of bug fixes. For instance, the /disablepb and /setadmin commands have been fixed, players in jail who are killed will now respawn in jail, and, there is now true fly detection. Along with this new fly detection there is a new server property which if set to true will only allow the admin and build groups fly. I told you I would use that build group eventually. BMS v0.5.4 Stage 4 Released - 8/11/2011

I know these updates are very close together, but, I think you guys will like this latest update. I am hoping that BMS v0.5.4 will bring v0.5 of BMS to a close, but, who knows what will happen. If I need to do another bugfix update, I will, and, If we, or anybody for that matter, find somethings which needs or should be added then I will do another update for that too. With that in mind though, the updates in 0.5.4 bring what I had planned for BMS's server mod to a close.

In this version, I added 9 more server commands, the likes of which are very powerful. On top of the large amount of added commands, I did some optimizing and bugfixing. The /list command is now actually working, and, protection blocks got some optimization in this update. To read about all of the new updates, as well as download the newest version of Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite, visit our download page.

Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite Feature Trailer - 8/9/2011

After a lot of hard work today, I managed to get together quite the trailer for Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite. My intent was to summarize all of our features to date, while not going to in-depth into anything. I think I got the job done; give it a gander and decide for yourself.

BMS v0.5.3 (Bugfix Update) Released - 8/2/2011

It was recently brought up to me that the recent 0.5.2 update broke single player world generation, and, while I hate pushing out these bugfix updates like that, I kind of have to. Sorry if I seem like Notch... The bugfix update fixed the large single player bug, along with a few other minor bugs. The /list command has been updated to actually output everybody in the server, the donator reserved group can now have titles too, and the diamond tooltip has been fixed. Get the latest version on BMS at the download page.

Confidence Booster - 8/2/2011

As many of you may have realized, we have been hitting a rough patch the past week or so. Our server was hit with an internet outage, which is bad enough on its own, but, it also corrupted our mostly new map, forcing us to yet again start over. I also made a mistake in the last release, forcing a bugfix update, something nobody likes...especially when notch does it... However, despite all of this, our downloads actually went up on the last release. We almost hit 200 yesterday. This is of course minimal compared to our 300 per day for a few weeks straight upon the release of 0.3, but, hey, I'm not complaining. I just hope we can one day actually compete with all of the other big mods out there instead of getting shoved to the sideline because we "don't use modloader." This spike in downloads gives me some confidence in this endevor, thanks BMS players :). You guys rock!

Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite v0.5.2 Released - 7/31/2011

Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite v0.5.2 has been released. This mod is seemingly just a bugfix update, but, we assure that those who administrate servers will notice a large difference in the management of their servers. More specifically, there has been a change in the way protection blocks works and are managed. The new system is called the smart protection block system, and, players in the correct protection group are now able to activate redstone/open doors within their protection blocks radius. There has also been a slew of other commands added, titles for players added, and at long last an admin tool capable of destroying any block has been added. To check out all of the new features, get bms today... Jump -->

So it was Quite the Night for BMS Players... - 7/30/2011

As many of you may know, the official BMS server is down right now due to a certain severing of internet connection by one brilliant construction worker with a large shovel. Be that as it may, players seem to have kept themselves busy for the most part with side projects. However, not all seem to have been so fortunate. I did see quite a lot of the following last night from BMS players... Jump -->

Instructional Video on BMS Auto Restart System - 7/28/2011

I finally made a video today on the auto crash detection functionality and implementation on Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite Servers. The video gives an in-depth look and tutorial on how to set up a BMS Server to auto restart upon a detected crash. My hopes with this video is to show server administrators a function which only Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite currently has. I don't know of any other mods which auto-detect and handle a server crash. Anyway, enjoy the video.

Holy Trees! - 7/27/2011

Upon teleporting to spawn on the official BMS server today I was greeted with a bug which I will be fixing in the next update of BMS. As you can see in the screenshot, there are quite a few tree sapplings on the ground around spawn and on the roof of spawn. After picking all of them up, there were roughly 1000 of them!... Verzus HATES Cobblestone - 7/25/2011

One of our admins on the official BMS server hates cobblestone, and, when I say he hates cobblestone, I mean he really hates cobblestone. Due to his inability to love cobblestone as the staple building material in minecraft, we have to let him blow up a few cobblestone things every now and again. Today, a player let verzus blow up a floating cobblestone building "thing" he built. Hit the jump and enjoy the spoils of that hilarious escapade... Jump -->

A Few Cool Things While I'm Away - 7/24/2011

Once again I have been away for a while. I am siting in a hotel in California, and, in the morning I will be heading for Arizona. Still, I saw some cool things that the BMS community has been coming up with. The first thing is a video of a skeleton mage dungeon. There are diamonds so you know it worth the watch.

After that I doticed that a group of players made their town of the new official BMS server. Their sign/logo was pretty cool, so, it made it onto the site. Anyway, check these out!... Read more -->

Amazing Castle on the Official BMS Server - 7/20/2011

It has been a few days since I have updated the website, but, I have been very busy with personal and scholarly business. Not that anybody particularly cares, but, I attended mayhem fest last Sunday and an amazing Soundgarden concert on monday. Both events kept me away from here, but, now I bring an awesome project from the official BMS server to make up for it. I was first informed of the project by PhineasWynd, a long time member of the BMS community, who is participating in the project... Read more -->

Another Griefer Banned Today - 7/16/2011

We had another griefer on the official BMS server today. A few people were pretty upset about it, so, I decided to do another griefer show. Pannoscept - Another BMS Server Video - 7/15/2011

I saw that Pannoscept put up another video on the official BMS server, so, of course I jumped right on updating this page with it. I really hope that you find that help you were seeking out Pannoscept; I am quite sure you have a few fans out there willing to help. Also, thank you for advertising our server again. Crazy Red Mushroom Cave - 7/14/2011

One of the newer members on the official BMS server, fabton, found another crazy mushroom specticle today. This time, however, it was a cave full of the rare and elusive red mushrooms. And the Mac and Linux Croud - 7/14/2011

Mac and Linux Minecraft users today are jumping for joy as the new release of Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite finally works on their machines. Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite v0.5.1 Released - 7/13/2011

Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite v0.5.1 has been released, and, we think you guys are going to like this. We have finally worked in some of those epic administration features we have promised for so long. What's even crazier is we barely started production of this addition to the mod last night! In this version of BMS, we have added block protection, locked chests, groups, party chat, and a private convo system. Just a Cool Collection - 7/10/2011

So there have been quite a few cool things happening on the official BMS server as of late. Most notible, we have seen a massive influx of new players. Many of these new players try to join our server without installing BMS and inevitably get kicked, but, quite a few players connect and continue playing. As you can see in the first screenshot in this collection, we have what looks like 10 players online. What's funny is we had more than that, but, minecraft can only output 2 lines of text before cutting a message off. We had 10 to 15 players on at that time... Read More -->

Blackmodule Studio Speaks on the Recent Updates - 7/8/2011

Recently, there have been a lot of changes in the BMS world. We updated BMS to Minecraft v1.7.2, we changes servers again(luckely keeping the same map this time), and as of today we upgraded our BMS client again to Minecraft 1.7.3. On top of all of this, we released part of our next BMS release. This was not intentional, but, ended up happening because of the rapid Notch updates...

I am sorry if anybody is getting fed up with the constant updates; believe me when I say that we are also getting fed up with them. I may not speak for everybody at Blackmodule studio when I say this, but, I think pistons and a few other features do not constiture an entire Minecraft update. Hell, some of our updates are bigger than that Notch.

Anyway, I hope we did not scare anybody off. I really hope this is the last update for Minecraft 1.7. With everything said, I hope to see everybody on the new Official BMS Server. It is a dedicated server with a dedicated 100/100 MBit connection. It runs faster and has more uptime than our previous server. Since we put it up this afternoon we have not gone down once...Trying not to jinx it... Enjoy Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite v0.5 Stage 1; I know all of you server administrators are going to love it.

Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite v0.5 Stage 1 released - 7/8/2011

Due to the rapid releases of Minecraft, we have been forced to release the next version of Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite before we added all of the features we wanted to. Because of this, we have decided to release the next version in stages. Stage 1 is comprised of some very important server administration features which will making running a BMS server MUCH easier. As a note, an auto restart feature has been added to this BMS release, and, will be described in a video and text guide soon. Get the lastest BMS release by hitting the jump... Jump -->

Switching Servers Again - 7/7/2011

Due to limitations of our current server which are ultimately leading to some downtime, we are switching servers again. This time the server will be dedicated, and, we will have full linux access, meaning that we will have more uptime since our auto restart scripts can run 24/7. Also, this time we will be keeping the same map. The reason we switched last time was to move to our favorite seed. I will update the server page with the new IP now, but, the server will not be up for like an hour. I would finally like to assure donators that their current donations will still be going to server costs. One thing we may do is upgrade the RAM on our new dedicated server from 2Gb, which is already more than our previous virtual private server, to 4Gb. Two final things this new dedicated server does is again remove the player cap, and, reduce server costs to virtually nothing. We can accomplish this because of a very giving BMS community member: verzus. He will be hosting the official BMS server for you guys. On top of thanking him for the $40 donation, thank him for the new dedicated server. The server is up, so, come in and join us.To BMS Server Page -->

Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite Updated to Minecraft 1.7.2 - 7/6/2011

After many, and I mean many, hours of development, BMS has been updated to Minecraft v1.7.2. The update took about 2 days, and, hopefully the update of the BMS server will go just as smoothly. If you are reading this post, know that the server is back up and running. I can't say if the map will port over, but, I am pretty certain that we will have no problems with that; I kept all existing block and item ID's to be sure of it. Anyway, remember to update your client before joining the official BMS server again. As of tonight it will be running MC 1.7.2.

Donation Received! - 7/6/2011

Thanks to Mr. Eric Johnson, the BMS server can run for yet another month. I was thinking of expanding the server, but, it is far to early for that as we have not filled our 20 man server yet. With that said, Mr. Johnsons $40 donation is very much appreciated and will be going towards the cost of the server. Everybody say thank you to your server mate when we figure out what his name is in-game!

Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite Approaching 15000 Downloads - 7/5/2011

For those of you following us, you may know that we feature Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite in a few different places: on our official website, on minecraftforums.net, and on modDB. As of this moment, MODDB has brought in 5556 downloads of BMS, all versions included. Our official website download has brought in 9286 downloads, all versions included. You can see these figures live under the projects tab on the BMS home site. To Official Download Tracker -->

For those of you with some sort of math skills, you will see that these figures add up to something extremely close to 15000. That figure is 14842, and, will soon reach and breach 15000. This is an amazing milestone for Blackmodule Studio. 15000 is a very large figure for a lowely mod such as ours. Perhaps that figure will become even more impressive once we upgrade to Minecraft 1.7. What do you guys think? Join us on the forums and let us know... To the Forums -->

UPDATE NOW BLACKMODULE STUDIO!!! - 7/4/2011

Recently there has been a lot of questioning as to where the next installment, meaning the upgrade to 1.7, of Blackmodule Studio's Minecraft Suite is. Well, I am here to inform everybody about how production actually works at Blackmodule Studio, and, why the upgrade to Minecraft 1.7 is not out yet. While many factors go into production, like time and such, one key factor keeps BMS installments held up: Minecraft Coders Pack.

First off, let me just say that we love Minecraft Coders Pack here at Blackmodule Studio. In fact, in one of our members eyes, MCP is the greatest minecraft mod as it allows for a slew of fantastic mods like BMS to be developed. With that said, MCP is also a mod which needs to be updated on every Minecraft update.

Minecraft Coders Pack is a development environment for the Minecraft engine. It deobfuscates most of Minecrafts code, allowing for much easier editing of the source. Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite simply would not exist without it. With that in mind, one can see how if MCP does not update, neither can BMS. In fact, all updates of BMS will always come out after new installments of MCP. Below is a quote from Searge, the lead creator of MCP, on the recent delay of MCP's next release:

"Just a short update for all the impatient people here. It's also for the people who patiently wait for our next release, ofc ;) We are still working on the new MCP release for 1.7.2 and hope to have a release ready soon. It's always hard to predict how long updates take, because we prefer to release stable MCP versions and have to double check the deobfuscation and manually fix things that went wrong. We have automated tools that do most of the work, but some thing just need manual steps. And we do not delay our releases on purpose, we never really did that, just said so to silence all the impatient "update now!" people. I hope you prefer to wait wait a bit longer and get a correct and working MCP version over a rushed release with annoying bugs in it."

So there you have it. Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite is dependant on the next release of Minecraft Coders Pack. Searge and his team seem to be working hard on the project, so, we will just sit back and wait for them to get it right, so that we can get it right. Also, hopefully this has answered a few questions about BMS releases itself. Just be patient, the updates will come. :)

I hope they thank you personally as we have. -Blackmodule Studio

Pirate Ships of the BMS Server - 7/2/2011

There has been a reoccuring theme on the BMS server recently: Pirate Ships. I do not know how the theme came about, but, I know that the first ship build was a small one by our good buddy sf952, whom we contracted to build the spawn port town. He then built a second ship out at sea from the yet to be named port town, a ship which I believe is worthy of the title "pirate ship." So far this is my personal favorite ship in all of minecraft; he did a super job with it. With that being said, of course, there is a third ship which cropped up on the BMS server... Read more -->

Auto restart and bug fixes were deved today - 6/27/2011

Justin and I finally got together today and developed for BMS; we have been working on separate projects lately trying to push forward on many different fronts. We developed a system for auto restarting upon a server crash. We, for the first time in our lives, had to delve into the world of linux shell/bash scripting. It wasn't that hard to pick up the syntax, and, we eventually developed a system for auto server restarting upon a crash. This auto restart does a soft reboot of the minecraft server upon a crash, so hopefully no items will be lost when/if a crash happens. We have yet to test this however.

I also did some bug fixing for this update. I fixed the sign bug, as well as another small bug that didn't effect the players. Hopefully with all of the time and work we put in today we can get back to playing without crashes. Of course, if a crash does happen, inform me so I can handle the crash in code and restart the server when the crash happens. Download BMS -->

Spawn is getting a Port Town! - 6/26/2011

If anybody has been on the server recently, you would know that we have been planning a port town; rightly so too as spawn has the perfect layout for one. BMS is getting a new server and will have more up time - 6/23/2011

Due to some recent issues we have had with our first server, we have purchased another server through Hosted Game servers, a company we have come to trust over many months of testing their services. The server, a 20 man server with 1.5 gigs of ram, costs $40 a month. Blackmodule Studio funded the initial month of server uptime, but, will not be funding additional months. Any addition server play will be funded through donations from the BMS community.

Since this is the official BMS server, all updates to BMS will arrive here before being released officially. This means that all forms of grief protection will be truly tested here before anywhere else. As it is, we already have roughly half of our server administration mod developed and implemented on our server. Come in, enjoy, and have fun! To BMS Server Page -->

Kids just having fun - 6/22/2011

This is not really news worthy, but, I thought it was kind of cool. Justin found a video of kids just playing Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite. Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite gets mentioned in next issue of CD-Action - 6/21/2011

Well this is a piece of news certainly worth getting excited about; Blackmodule's Minecraft Suite is to be mentioned in the next issue of CD-Action, a Polish gaming magazine. For Blackmodule Studio, this is definitely a real confidence booster as well as some much needed publicity. I don't know whether the article they write will be good or bad, but, I would guess good as we are mentioned along side some other big game mods which are supposed to be really good. Either way, I am going to get a copy of that magazine for Blackmodule Studio as it is the first bit of publicity we get. You can see the list of what is to be printed in the magazine here. You can see us mentioned as one of the 6 mods in the Modulator section.

Picking up and getting better - 6/21/2011

Something super inspirational happened on the BMS server today; well, technically it was yesterday, as I am writing this at 12:30 am, but, you get the idea. Our community members, while few, picked up and started over after our recent griefings. The statue at our spawn, which was being built by ShankTheNinja, was repeatedly griefed and never able to be finished. After a lot of community help, and a lot of hard work by Mr. Ninja, the statue finally got built. It has a few personal touches by everybody who was there today. In fact, everybody laid a few blocks of their own here and there. I personally laid out the inside so people can go inside and check things out. This is nothing compared to Ninja's work though; I mean, just look at the thing! Read more -->
